Comprehensive Health Survey of Kashmiri Communities

The goal of this project was to create a comprehensive health portrait of the Indrahama and Burzahama communities in order to uniquely tailor future heath care efforts designed to address these communities’ health care needs.

Health Care in Kashmir

The author reports on his trip as a first-year medical student volunteering through Kashmir Corps to work in Kashmir. He compares the health care systems of India and the United States and some of the differences in medical education and practice. The author also describes his participation in two medical camps to serve rural communities.

On the brink

Deficit in food production in Kashmir region has reached 40 per cent, while the deficit is 30 per cent in vegetable production and 69 per cent in oilseed production for a population of 6 million, putting food security at a greater risk. In 1980–81, Kashmir valley had a food deficit of only 23 per cent for a total population of 3.3 million.
